Goals and Objectives
Goals and objectives are the skeleton of a curriculum; providing support, structure and guidance for all learning experiences and outcomes. All courses and clerkships are being asked to adopt a common format for documenting their course goals and objectives by ACGME competency. The intention is to create a common language and structure that will allow students, faculty and administration to be able to clearly communicate and understand what is currently being taught throughout our four year curriculum.
The IME team has developed a framework for documenting goals, key concepts and learning objectives and provides faculty support and resources during the development process.
The Goals and Objectives Framework will allow us to:
- Develop a Curriculum Scope and Sequence that illustrates a current map of the four year curriculum
- Assist Course and Clerkship Directors, instructors, faculty, and staff in knowing what concepts are being taught (where and when) in our curriculum and make this information easily accessible
- Help students gain an understanding of expectations and competencies and provide them with a clear picture of how the curriculum is organized
- Identify and gather evidence of curricular gaps, overlaps and redundancies
- Meet requirements for LCME accreditation
