Geriatrics/Senior Partners Program
Curriculum Manager Renie Schapiro continues to work with the Senior Student Partnership Program (SSPP) in PDS 2. This program pairs medical students, together with other health professions students, with older adults living independently in the community. The students make visits to their "senior partners" in their homes and learn about psychosocial aspects of successful aging and communication.
This year student projects address selected prevention, public health and ethics topics: managing health care costs; interactions with the health care system; health promotion; advance care planning; and functional assessments. Students will make presentations to their peers in groups of four, drawing on what they learned on the subjects from their seniors and independent research. Also, the students will be introduced to peer evaluation, providing feedback to each other on their presentation and how they contributed as a team member.
